Avis Rent A Car System, Inc. and its subsidiaries
operate the world’s second largest general-use car rental business, providing
business and leisure customers with a wide range of services at more than 1,700
locations in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Latin
American/Caribbean region. Avis is recognized as the industry leader in applying
new technologies and is one of the world’s top brands for customer loyalty. In
Singapore, the office is staffed by a total of 21 personnel whose goal is to
leverage on the Avis brand worldwide to provide customers with the similar
impeccable service experience that is synonymous with the Avis brand. .
As Avis grew from strength to strength in Singapore since its establishment, it
gradually became evident that the company needed to adopt a more efficient means
of carrying out their financial accounting operations cum reporting. Two drivers
were seen to be creating the impetus for such a change. For one, the need for
instant or quick access to essential and up to date financial information on
Avis debtors and suppliers to enable management to make more profitable
decisions under compressed timeframes was definitely creating a push for Avis to
re-look at their current status quo. Furthermore, Avis was scheduled to move to
a LAN network environment in their new office and it was only imperative that
they looked into ways to leverage on their improved I.T infrastructure to run
their operations more efficiently. Before their planned move to the new office
premise, Avis was running on standalone computer architecture and its accounting
staff was performing its accounting operations using a DOS based financial
accounting software. Various accounting functions had to be done on separate PCs
without the option amongst users to share essential information. This had
resulted in Avis staff spending much time tallying the accounts manually and
having the need to constantly communicate with each other just to perform the
entire accounting function smoothly. Without the aid of any superior accounting
software, achieving further staff productivity appeared remote under this
circumstance.
With majority of Avis worldwide offices having migrated to ACCPAC financial
